Activities & Events
WELCOME! We are excited about the possibilities for Winstead this school year. We look forward to having you as an active participant in our school and PTO. Involved parents create a better school and there are so many ways to get involved!
Whether you are new to Winstead or you have been here for years, the following information is intended to give you details on our different committees and events to help you connect with what interests you! Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Heather Beard at email@example.com or fill out the Volunteer Form to get started!
5th Grade Car Wash – The 5th Grade Car Wash is an avenue used to raise money for the 5th Grade end of the year celebration and gift to school. Cars are washed for a donation. It is not a professional car wash and donations are accepted for those that want to help but would rather not have their car washed. All money raised/donated goes directly to the 5th grade fund.
5th Grade Celebration – Fifth grade parents organize and coordinate a night to celebrate our kids and their time at Winstead. The night includes a slide show, speech presentations and a cake reception. It is nothing over the top but still a special night.
5th Grade Class T-shirts – Volunteers are needed to coordinate the process and work with our vendor on two t-shirt designs that the students then get to vote on and pre-order. These shirts are a fun memento and will be ordered in the Fall of the school year.
Art Support – Volunteers assist the Art teacher throughout the year hanging art work in the school and helping with the annual art fundraiser – Art to Remember.
Back to School Social – This is an opportunity for students and parents to come meet their teachers for grades 1st – 5th. But even Kindergartners are welcome to come signup for PTO, buy spirit wear, get your picture with Winston and find out a lot of information about the upcoming school year.
Back to School Packs – This is a service provided by the PTO for our students and families to make shopping for school supplies easier. Duties include collecting school supply lists from faculty, compiling lists and coordinating with our outside vendor. Work for this committee takes place in the spring and right before school starts back.
BooHoo Yahoo Breakfast - This is a breakfast for Kindergarten parents after they drop their babies off for their first full day of school. Volunteers are needed to help serve and/or prepare food.
Box Tops – Box Tops add up fast to extra “free” money for our school and each school year we hold a contest to see which classroom can collect the most. The winner at the end of the year receives an ice cream party so be sure to have your child submit your collection. Volunteers are needed to help count and coordinate our Box Top contest.
Girls With Pearls Dance – Enjoy a special night with your little girl. We have a DJ, refreshments and a picture booth so bring a camera. Volunteers are needed to help decorate, donate baked items or break down after the event.
Field Day – This is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year. The day consists of a variety of events, games, and competitions for all to enjoy. Field day t-shirts are sold to pay for field day expenses with all proceeds going straight to the PE department. Volunteers are needed to help organize and coordinate both before the event and the day of the event.
Grandparents’ Breakfast – This is a breakfast for grandparents and their grandchildren before school. Grandparents can tour the school and make purchases at the school store. Volunteers are needed to help serve and/or prepare food.
Grounds/Gardening – Help us keep our school grounds maintained. Lots of volunteers are needed to maintain our current landscaped areas. We have such a large area to maintain but not enough resources to do it. Volunteers are needed to help maintain beds by weeding, mulching and spraying beds. If you have an hour a week, every two weeks or even once a month, we could use your help.
Hospitality – This is a fabulous opportunity to share your cooking skills. This committee provides refreshments for monthly staff meetings and special school functions throughout the school year.
Kindergarten Balloons – This committee delivers balloons to Kindergartners’ mailboxes before their first full day of school.
Library Support – This committee assists the Librarian throughout the year and helps with the annual Book Fair fundraiser in the Fall.
Lost & Found – Frequently check Lost & Found items for names so they can be returned to their student. Items will be donated in October, December, February, and April.
4th Annual Dodgeball Tournament – Moms, aunts or even grandmas!!! – Loosen up those throwing arms for a fun night out with your boy! Games will be Mother/Son teams against Mother/Son teams. Volunteers are needed to referee, keep score and provide refreshments for the players.
Music Support – These volunteers assist the Music teacher with Kindergarten, 2nd Grade and 4th Grade class programs and set decorations.
PAAWs Enrichment Clubs - PAAWs stands for Promoting After-School Activities at Winstead. After school clubs are held for an hour on Wednesdays after school for a 6 weeks period in the Fall and Spring. Volunteers are needed who have a desire to pass along a skill, talent, or simply your time to the students. Want to get involved with clubs but not sure what to do? We need many volunteers to continue to provide this amazing program for the students. Please consider leading a club or co lead with a friend!
Paw Patch School Store – Volunteers are needed to work daily morning shifts in the school store.
Room Parents – Room parents work with the teacher to plan parties and help with any classroom activities/projects. Room Parents also work with respective committee chairs for Teacher Appreciation Week and Wildcat Palooza.
Smoothie Fridays – Every Friday morning Jamba Juice offers smoothies to our students. Students can choose from a 9 oz. Strawberry Banana or Peach Mango for $3 each. They come with a straw and lid so students can take them to class. They are a huge hit and sell out fast!
Talent, Art Show & Bake Sale – All in one night, Winstead Families come together for a very special night. The school talent show is a great way for students to perform and shine. Before the show starts participants and spectators will have the opportunity to view student art work throughout the school and purchase delicious treats at our Bake Sale. 5th grade students can get involved in several ways that night in addition to performing in the talent show by trying out for Talent Show Emcee or helping backstage.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheons – Help us show the faculty and staff at Winstead how much they are loved and appreciated. Two grades host a staff lunch three times during the year. Event volunteers will help with preparing food, set-up, serving and clean-up.
Wildcat Palooza – Held the fourth Friday in September, Wildcat Palooza is a fun night of games, food and community. We need help with food, activities, silent auction and much more! This is alwasys a fun event to get involved with so please join us.
Invest In Winstead 2018-2019 – A one time, tax deductible donation that provides you with the opportunity to invest in your child and maintain the quality learning environment that our PTO fundraisers have provided our children. These funds go towards technology, learning material for classrooms and many other school wide enhancements that promote a valuable learning environment.
Workroom – Volunteers are needed Mon – Fri from 9 am-12 pm to make copies or assist with projects for teachers. Volunteers will be trained on all workroom equipment.
